Star Wars: Starfighter reveals cast as production gets underway.
Next year, Star Wars will make its return to theaters with Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu, marking a seven-year gap since the saga was last seen in cinemas with The Rise of Skywalker. However, fans won’t have to wait long for the next chapter, as Disney and Lucasfilm have confirmed that production has begun on Star Wars: Starfighter, which is scheduled for release in 2027.
The film, directed by Shawn Levy (known for Deadpool and Wolverine), stars Ryan Gosling, who was previously announced for the role, alongside Flynn Gray (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Mia Goth (MaXXXine), Aaron Pierre (Lanterns), Simon Bird (The Inbetweeners), Jamael Westman (Hamilton), Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen), and Amy Adams (Nightbitch).
Shawn Levy expressed his excitement, stating, “I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter. From the moment Kathy Kennedy reached out to me about developing an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this has been a dream come true, both creatively and personally. Star Wars has influenced my understanding of storytelling, demonstrating how characters and cinematic moments can remain with us forever. Joining this narrative universe with such talented collaborators, both on-screen and off, is an exhilarating opportunity.”
While specific details about Star Wars: Starfighter remain undisclosed, it is confirmed that the film will occur after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and will feature an original storyline. There are indications that some characters from the Sequel Trilogy may make a return, but none have been officially announced yet.
Star Wars: Starfighter is slated for release on May 28, 2027.
