
Anthony Ippolito will portray Sylvester Stallone in the film I Play Rocky.
Fresh off his portrayal of a young Al Pacino in The Offer, the Paramount+ series detailing the making of The Godfather, actor Anthony Ippolito is returning to the backdrop of 1970s Hollywood to play a young Sylvester Stallone in I Play Rocky. Directed by Peter Farrelly (Green Book) and written by Peter Gamble, I Play Rocky is being described as "the ultimate underdog story behind the ultimate underdog movie." It will feature Ippolito as the young Stallone, who is determined to make his mark in Hollywood by betting everything on his screenplay about an underdog boxer named Rocky Balboa.
The 1976 film Rocky marked Sylvester Stallone's breakthrough on the international stage, winning Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director (John G. Avildsen) and earning Stallone nominations for Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay. This film launched a franchise that remains ongoing and set Stallone on a path to becoming one of Hollywood's most prominent figures.
I Play Rocky is being produced by Toby Emmerich and Christian Baha for Amazon MGM Studios, with plans for a theatrical release. No release date has been announced yet.
