U.S. Trailer for Lucile Hadžihalilović’s The Ice Tower Focuses on Marion Cotillard
With this year being so packed with premieres, it’s easy to overlook the debut of The Ice Tower from seven months ago. However, we consider it one of the most remarkable offerings of 2025, making Yellow Veil Pictures' decision to give Lucile Hadžihalilović's film a limited release starting October 3 even more commendable. In anticipation of this release, a trailer has been unveiled featuring Marion Cotillard, Clara Pacini, August Diehl, and a wig-clad Gaspar Noé.
Here’s the official synopsis: “In the 1970s, runaway Jeanne becomes enchanted by Cristina, the mysterious star of The Snow Queen, a film being shot in the studio where she has found refuge. A mutual fascination develops between the actress and the girl.”
Savina Petkova remarked in her Critic’s Pick review from Berlinale that “The Ice Tower is stunning to behold, both textured and opulent; the seamless work of cinematographer Jonathan Ricquebourg (The Taste of Things) ensures that the longer takes feel as frozen as a winter landscape. Hadžihalilović has crafted a tribute to cinema as a spellbinding machine. Alongside Jeanne, who starts as a supposed extra but is quickly elevated to stand-in and supporting character by Cristina, we get a glimpse behind the scenes, witnessing the filming process and the complex dynamics occurring between takes (including the drama and unresolved tensions). However, the mise-en-scène always shines: there is no ‘ugly’ location in The Ice Tower, a film where nature, the dailies, and the shoot are all equally captivating, creating a space that feels magical for Jeanne throughout.”
