Watch: Scarlett Johansson Discovers Rituals in Prada Advert Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos

For those who find it challenging to appreciate Yorgos Lanthimos's feature films these days, he may have discovered his perfect outlet in (undoubtedly lucrative) commercials. His latest endeavor involves collaborating with Prada on a new advertisement featuring Scarlett Johansson, who recently made her directorial debut and still found time to engage with dinosaurs this summer.

The official description states: “Experience the new Prada campaign directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and featuring Prada Ambassador Scarlett Johansson. This cinematic exploration of transformation and identity showcases ritual personas. As a symbol of change, the Prada Galleria handbag is reimagined with each season. In this film, it plays a crucial role in a narrative of endless transformation – of the self, identity, and Prada itself.”

“Yorgos personally crafted the monologue for this Prada film, and there are countless ways to interpret it,” Johansson mentioned to Harper’s Bazaar. “Through the repetition of the monologue, with each take and varied setups, new meanings emerge—its abstraction transforms into a dynamic, ever-changing entity.”

Zhuo-Ning Su remarked in our Venice review of Bugonia, “After exploring dystopian fantasy (The Lobster) and historical comedy (The Favourite), while astonishing us with original works (Dogtooth) and imaginative adaptations (Poor Things), Yorgos Lanthimos has repeatedly demonstrated that he lacks any uncreative inclination. By remaking the underappreciated Korean sci-fi comedy thriller Save the Green Planet!, he honors the original while leaving his distinct mark on it. The result is a sleeker (if somewhat subdued) iteration of a truly outrageous film.”
