Fox has given a series order for a Baywatch reboot, set to premiere in 2026.

It seems we are finally returning to the beach, as Deadline reports that Fox has officially ordered a straight-to-series reboot of Baywatch, with twelve episodes of this revamped version of the classic American lifeguard drama created by Burn Notice's Matt Nix, set to debut in the 2026-27 television season.

"During its original run, Baywatch defined a whole era of beach culture and raised lifeguards to an iconic level," stated Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network. "Now, in collaboration with our partners at Fremantle, this television powerhouse is poised for a modern resurgence. Together, Fox and Fremantle, alongside Matt Nix and original co-creator Greg Bonann, will introduce the California dream to a new generation of viewers with fresh stories, emerging stars, and all the spectacle that has made the Baywatch franchise a worldwide phenomenon."

Co-created by Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz, and Gregory J. Bonann, Baywatch first aired on NBC in 1989 but was canceled after just one season; however, it later became a massive success in syndication, attracting over a billion viewers weekly at its peak. Over its eleven seasons, along with spin-offs and made-for-TV movies, it featured a cast that included David Hasselhoff, Alexandra Paul, Pamela Anderson, Erika Eleniak, Yasmine Bleeth, Nicole Eggert, Carmen Electra, Gena Lee Nolin, Jeremy Jackson, Donna D’Errico, and Jason Momoa. A film reboot featuring Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, and Priyanka Chopra was released in 2017.

"Baywatch has always been a valuable asset in Fremantle's catalog and remains one of the most iconic series in television history worldwide. We have found ideal partners in Fox to help us uphold this legacy. With Matt Nix leading the way, we are in excellent hands, as he is skilled at crafting engaging and entertaining narratives," remarked Christian Vesper, CEO of Global Drama at Fremantle. "Our aim is to reconnect with current fans while also welcoming a new generation to the world of these legendary lifeguards."
