New to Streaming: Splitsville, 28 Years After, The Goldfinger & More

Each week, we showcase the notable titles that have recently been added to streaming services in the United States. Check out this week's picks below and previous compilations here.

      **28 Years Later (Danny Boyle)**

Equipped with a plethora of iPhones, *28 Years Later* is certainly a demonstration from Boyle that he still has the flair. His energetic style, combined with returning writer Alex Garland's unusually structured screenplay, results in a film where the audience never feels ahead—an impressive compliment for a movie soon to hit theaters. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean it equates to an excellent film. – Ethan V. (full review)

      **All of You (William Bridges)**

Many films have ventured to explore whether a man and a woman can truly be just friends, yet few succeed in affirming this notion. For much of its first half, *All of You* seemed on track to become another entry in this romantic narrative, as journalist Simon (Brett Goldstein) gradually comes to realize that his best friend since college, Laura (Imogen Poots), might be his soulmate. It felt predictable, although the engaging dialogue and realistic performances lifted it above the typical Richard Curtis-style tearjerker. Then, halfway through, Simon and Laura are compelled to confront this lurking issue—at which point the screenplay, penned by Goldstein and director William Bridges, reveals a depth of emotional intelligence and a more realistic approach to their evolving relationship than the lovesick first act would imply. – Alistair R.       **Il Dono (Michelangelo Frammartino)**

Following his recent success with the mesmerizing *Il Buco* (also known as *The Hole*), audiences can now view an early, newly restored work by Italian director Michelangelo Frammartino. His 2003 debut film, *Il Dono* (also referred to as *The Gift*), captures the breathtaking Calabrian landscape and the few inhabitants of the village of Caulonia. After a theatrical release by Kino Lorber this past summer, this new restoration is now available digitally. The film was restored in 4K in 2022 by Coproduction Office and Cineteca di Bologna at L’Immagine Ritrovata and Augustus Color laboratories, utilizing the original camera and sound negatives, under Michelangelo Frammartino’s supervision.

      **The Goldfinger (Felix Chong)**

Despite its Bond-like title, *The Goldfinger* serves as more of a reunion for a different set of creators. Bringing together Andy Lau, Tony Leung, and writer now turned writer-director Felix Chong from the *Infernal Affairs* series, this latest film explores the rise and fall of a corrupt property mogul. Spanning several decades and inspired by the Carrian Group—a Hong Kong conglomerate that collapsed in the 1980s—*The Goldfinger* places Lau and Leung on opposing sides, with Lau portraying Lau Kai-yeun, an investigator for the ICAC (Independent Commission Against Corruption), and Leung as Henry Ching, an engineer navigating shady deals to manage a multi-billion-dollar business. – Christian G.       **Splitsville (Michael Angelo Covino)**

Six years after their successful debut *The Climb*, Michael Angelo Covino and Kyle Marvin have returned with stars in tow for *Splitsville*, a romantic comedy that is both surprising and hilarious. After its premiere at Cannes, it is now in theaters. Luke Hicks commented in his review, “Marvin and Covino have distinctly shaped their early careers. Apart, Covino pursued acting more vigorously than Marvin, taking roles in the Oscar-nominated *News of the World* and the ensemble film *Riff Raff*, while Marvin secured an important supporting role in the Apple TV+ miniseries *WeCrashed* and began his directing career with *80 for Brady*. Together, they craft sharp, Sorkin-esque buddy comedies that highlight their unique comedic chemistry and timing. Their relatable, grounded style of silly, reckless, and unpredictable comedy feels like the emergence of a fresh voice reminiscent of Wes Anderson's quirky indie charm from the '90s.”

      **The Surfer (Lorcan Finnegan)**

In *The Surfer*, an exploitation film that ramp up the tension, a mild-mannered man faces off against a group that even Andrew Tate might find over the top. Set in South Australia in the fictional Luna Bay, a location where if the heat doesn’t get you, something else likely will. The waters are a striking turquoise blue, but the beaches resemble scorched earth. Into this harsh environment comes an unnamed man (Nicolas Cage), wishing only to check out a cliffside
