Exclusive: Neil Kleid and Alex Cormack dive into the Middle Ages with their new comic book series.

Xeric award-winning author Neil Kleid (The Panic, Brownsville, Nice Jewish Boys) and artist Alex Cormack are preparing to delve into a Medieval theme this November with a mature, action-packed new comic series centered on baseball, the Bronx, and sixth-century Britain, courtesy of Amazon’s Comixology Originals.

“This narrative marks a significant shift from my typical, extensive dramatic explorations of legacy and the human experience,” says writer Neil Kleid. “While it still delves into the essence of humanity – it's a love story. Rather than a chivalric romance, it tells the tale of two lovers lost in time who find themselves in an unfamiliar world, learning both their limitations and what they truly need to become the best versions of themselves. And yes, it involves baseball. Plus, I get to unleash some curse words.”

“I was initially unsure about joining Medieval, as I'm from Massachusetts and have a deep affection for baseball,” comments artist Alex Cormack, “but Neil’s story was just too enjoyable to pass up. I’m thrilled I decided to take part because every panel has been a joy to illustrate! Castles, knights, baseball, dragons (uh, spoilers!), carnage – what isn’t there to love?”

Baseball enthusiast Danny Landau and his girlfriend Gina Rabinowitz attend a game featuring their favorite Bronx team against their most infamous rivals. After getting struck by a line drive, Danny wakes up in sixth-century England, out of sync with time and armed only with a talent for construction, a love for baseball, and an inclination for combat. Over the next year, he spends his time drinking and fighting, searching for a way back to his girlfriend and New York. His loud-mouthed chivalry – along with “The Babe,” his custom-made iron baseball bat – catches the eye of Camelot and Arthur’s Knights of the Round Table, leading him to confront King Arthur, Lancelot, and the cunning magician Merlin, who may hold the key to Danny's return home… but whose real motives are questionable! As cultures collide and the encounter turns violent, Lancelot proposes a Grand Tournament of bravery, nobility, and strength where Arthur Pendragon of Camelot and Danny Landau from the Bronx – a beer-drinking, bat-wielding fighter – will face off in an epic showdown.

Medieval #1 will be released on November 11th, 2025.
