Exclusive Trailer for Celebrated Documentary River of Grass Delves into the Past and Future of the Everglades

This year, River of Grass by Sasha Wortzel had its world premiere at the prestigious True/False Film Festival and has garnered accolades at Hot Docs, the Margaret Mead Film Festival, and more. The documentary serves as a tribute to Florida's Everglades, delving into the area's history and examining its cultural and environmental significance, inspired by the works and legacy of Marjory Stoneman Douglas, along with the persistent efforts of Indigenous activists advocating for the protection of their ancestral territories. Before its theatrical release starting in Miami on October 17 and in NYC on October 24, we’re excited to present the new trailer exclusively.

Here’s the synopsis: “RIVER OF GRASS is a contemporary reinterpretation of Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ seminal 1947 book, The Everglades: River of Grass, which transformed public perception of Florida's wetlands from 'worthless swamp' to a vital ecological gem. Following a hurricane, Douglas appears to Wortzel in a dream, sparking a vibrant journey through the Everglades alongside Miccosukee educator and activist Betty Osceola. By weaving together Douglas’ writings, personal narration, breathtaking contemporary footage, and rare archival clips, the film uncovers how the country’s foundational story impacts and shapes modern American life, while posing the question of how we can better navigate future challenges collectively.”
