Reconstructing His Journey: Josh O’Connor Pieces His Life Back Together
The third of four films featuring Josh O’Connor set for a fall release, Max Walker-Silverman’s follow-up to A Love Song, titled Rebuilding, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and is scheduled to be released by Bleecker Street on November 14.
Here’s the synopsis: “In a gently humanist tale of the American West by Max Walker-Silverman (A Love Song), Rebuilding tells the story of Dusty (Josh O’Connor), a quiet divorced father whose ranch has been destroyed by a devastating wildfire. Currently residing in a trailer community within a government-managed campsite, Dusty finds comfort with his fellow neighbors who have also lost everything, quietly pieces his life back together, and begins to reconnect with his ex-wife Ruby (Meghann Fahy) and their young daughter Callie-Rose (Lily LaTorre). Set against the stunning backdrop of southern Colorado, Rebuilding is a reflective and poignant portrayal of resilience and human connections following loss.”
In his review from Sundance, Kent M. Wilhelm remarked, “Loneliness can affect anyone. Even in the midst of others, one can feel disconnected or isolated––lost in their own thoughts. For some, that sensation follows devastation; the unexpected kind that strips everything away and leaves destruction in its wake. Many of us hear these stories in the news, react with a sense of pity, possibly donate some money, but ultimately regard it as just another twist of fate and move on. In Rebuilding, Max Walker-Silverman reflects on the idea that if loss and destruction are part of life, then so too must healing and rebirth be.”
