Here’s an exciting casting update. Michael B. Jordan may be able to keep his wardrobe from the finale of Sinners, as he is reportedly in early discussions to star in Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice movie for Universal.
As per Deadline, Jordan is expected to portray TV detective Ricardo Tubbs, who, alongside his partner Sonny Crockett, tackled crimes in the vibrant atmosphere of 1980s Miami. Director Kosinski, known for Top Gun: Maverick and his work in F1, aims to begin filming in 2026, using a script by Eric Warren Singer (Now You See Me, Now You Don’t) and Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler).
This adaptation of Miami Vice is said to ‘explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami’ and will draw inspiration from the pilot episode and the first season of the legendary series, which starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas and aired for five seasons from 1984 to 1989. Michael Mann also directed a stylish and highly underrated 2006 film version featuring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.
Kosinski’s Miami Vice is scheduled to be released on August 6, 2027, giving Jordan ample time to complete his next directorial project, a much-anticipated remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, in which he will star alongside Adria Arjona, Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, and Pilou Asbæk.
