Wong Kar Wai's Blossoms Shanghai is set to premiere on Criterion Channel starting this month.

Two years after Wong Kar Wai’s Blossoms Shanghai debuted in China, the much-anticipated series is set to arrive in America. Starting November 24, the Criterion Channel will exclusively launch the 30-episode series, with three new episodes available every Monday night at 8 p.m. ET until the end of January. A new trailer has also been released ahead of the launch.

Wong Kar Wai expressed his excitement, stating, “I am delighted to continue my long-standing partnership with Criterion for the North American release of my first series on the Criterion Channel. The series captures the vibrant spirit of Shanghai during the bustling ’90s, exposing universal truths about desire and destiny. We hope this series sheds light on a crucial period in China’s transformation.”

Here’s the synopsis: “Blossoms Shanghai is the inaugural original episodic series by the iconic filmmaker Wong Kar Wai. Based on Jin Yucheng’s award-winning novel Blossoms, the series follows the rise of self-made millionaire Ah Bao, the Jay Gatsby of Shanghai, amid the economic boom that ensued after the opening of the Shanghai stock exchange. Renowned Chinese actor Hu Ge portrays Bao, embodying the idealism and adventurous spirit of the 1990s. While In the Mood for Love honors the Shanghainese community in Hong Kong, Blossoms Shanghai marks Wong Kar Wai’s first effort to tell a story about his hometown during one of its most fascinating historical moments.”
