Sydney Sweeney collaborates with Justin Lin for the remake of That Man From Rio.
As her new film Christy prepares to debut in theaters this week [check out our review here], Deadline has reported that Sydney Sweeney has committed to produce and star in a remake of the 1964 French adventure comedy That Man From Rio, which will be directed by Fast & Furious veteran Justin Lin for Apple Original Films.
The original film, directed by Philippe de Broca and featuring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Françoise Dorléac, parodied the James Bond films of that time and followed a young soldier on leave who steps in to rescue his girlfriend after she is kidnapped by thieves and taken to Rio de Janeiro.
This remake will bring Sweeney back together with Apple and producer Kevin Walsh from The Walsh Company after their collaboration on this year’s thriller Echo Valley. Lin will direct from a script written by Chase Palmer (IT), and the search is currently on for the film’s male lead, targeting an A-list actor.
2025 has been a significant year for Sydney Sweeney, who also starred in Ron Howard’s Eden, along with Echo Valley and Christy, the latter of which is generating award buzz for her portrayal of the legendary American boxer Christy Martin. Next on her agenda is Paul Feig’s The Housemaid, alongside Amanda Seyfried, which is set to be released in December [watch the trailer here].
