The trailer for The Voice of Hind Rajab: Venice Award Winner and Tunisia’s Entry for the Oscars Debuts This December.
Winner of the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival and Tunisia’s entry for the Oscars, Kaouther Ben Hania’s The Voice of Hind Rajab has been impacting audiences throughout the festival circuit since its debut. Recently acquired by WILLA, the film is set for a theatrical release starting December 17 in New York and Los Angeles, and the U.S. trailer has now been unveiled.
Here’s the synopsis: “On January 29, 2024, Red Crescent volunteers receive an emergency call. A 5-year-old girl is trapped in a car under attack in Gaza, begging for help. While trying to keep her on the line, they are desperately working to send an ambulance to her. Her name was Hind Rajab.”
In his review, C.J. Prince commented, “One could argue that if Ben Hania’s film raises awareness about the genocide in Gaza, it is a success. However, after witnessing for two years the massacre of innocent civilians in Israel, the idea that art can bring about significant change seems shortsighted. Such perspectives appear to reflect the mentality that has led us to this situation. The Voice of Hind Rajab seems just as likely to foster the kind of self-congratulatory responses that have become too common in modern ‘political’ cinema, where the mere act of watching a film like this and recognizing one’s sympathy in response is mistakenly viewed as a form of direct action.”
