Scarlett Johansson is in negotiations for The Batman Part II.
Matt Reeves' eagerly awaited The Batman Part II is approaching its production commencement, and Deadline has reported the first possible new casting for the film. According to their update, former Marvel Avenger Scarlett Johansson is in discussions to star alongside Robert Pattinson in the sequel.
Johansson has entered into final negotiations to join the project, and official confirmation is expected in the upcoming weeks. Details about her character remain undisclosed, as Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin have been very tight-lipped about the storyline. She could potentially portray a variety of characters, including fellow socialites such as Silver St. Cloud, Vicki Vale, or Julie Madison, as well as Batman villains like Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn.
Returning from The Batman are Pattinson and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/The Penguin, who reprised his role in HBO’s The Penguin series, earning several accolades for his performance. It is likely that Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis will reprise their roles as Batman’s allies Jim Gordon and Alfred Pennyworth, although there has been no word yet about Zoë Kravitz's return as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. It also remains to be seen if Barry Keoghan will return as The Joker following his brief appearance at the film's conclusion.
The Batman was the first installment of Reeves’ ‘epic crime saga’ featuring the Caped Crusader, which now includes this film, The Penguin, and the forthcoming sequel. While it serves as a reboot of the Batman franchise, Reeves’ series exists independently from James Gunn’s DCU, which officially launched this summer with Superman and has several projects in development.
Currently, Andy Muschietti, who directed It and The Flash, is still set to direct The Brave and the Bold, which will introduce both Batman and Robin into the DCU. However, updates on that film have been sparse, particularly as Muschietti is working on HBO’s It: Welcome to Derry series.
Johansson is coming off a busy year, having starred in Jurassic World: Rebirth, The Phoenician Scheme, and directed her debut film, Eleanor The Great. She was recently announced to appear in Mike Flanagan’s Exorcist film and will next be seen in Paper Tiger.
For now, production on The Batman Part II is slated to begin in spring 2026, with a release date set for October 1st, 2027.
