James Wan will be producing a new installment in the Paranormal Activity franchise.
Blumhouse-Atomic Monster are gearing up by charging their GoPros and enhancing their home security systems to produce a new Paranormal Activity movie for theaters.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the newly established horror production powerhouse aims to replicate the success of their Insidious and Conjuring franchises with this $890 million grossing film series. The original 2007 film made $194 million from a reported budget of just $15,000. Oren Peli, who directed Paranormal Activity, is on board as a producer, alongside James Wan from The Conjuring and super-producer Jason Blumhouse under the Blumhouse-Atomic Monster label. Paramount Pictures will co-finance, co-produce, and distribute the film.
Wan expressed in a statement that he has “been a huge admirer of Paranormal Activity since the brilliant first movie, with its creeping slow burn and subtle ability to make the unseen terrifying. I’m looking forward to expanding on its legacy and helping shape the next evolution of this scary found-footage franchise.”
The last installment in the Paranormal Activity series was 2021’s Next of Kin, which was largely forgettable and released on Paramount+. Before that, there was 2015’s Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, which also fell short compared to the outstanding original, but still earned nearly $80 million on a $10 million budget.
