Retro Games Ltd revitalizes a classic with The Quickshot II.
If you mention the Quickshot II joystick to any seasoned gamer, you're likely to see a nostalgic look in their eyes as they reminisce about the golden days of gaming on 8-bit and 16-bit home computers. Thanks to Retro Games Ltd and PLAION REPLAI, 2026 will allow all gamers to once again enjoy the excitement of using The Quickshot II, a contemporary redesign of one of the most beloved joysticks in gaming history.
While there were numerous joysticks available in the 80s, the Quickshot II stood out as one of the best, with many gamers swearing by its performance (in contrast to some others, where gamers may have simply expressed frustration). Now, decades later, Retro Games Ltd is reviving it along with its distinctive shape.
This new USB-enabled controller offers authentic retro gaming experiences to modern players, featuring several key components, including:
- Eight action and feature buttons, comprising two fire buttons and six function buttons.
- A floating ball-joint design allowing for smooth and accurate eight-way circular movement.
- All-microswitch construction for every directional input and fire button.
- An auto-fire switch for fast-paced high-score attempts (a beloved feature of the original Quickshot II).
- An ergonomic grip for comfort during extended gaming sessions.
- Essential suction cups for one-handed control on flat surfaces.
- A 1.8m USB-A cable, perfect for gaming setups.
The Quickshot II is compatible with all systems produced by Retro Games Ltd (the C64, the A500, the Spectrum), and with most USB-capable computer systems and retro gaming platforms.
Gamers can pre-order The Quickshot II for £29.99, with a release date set for 30th January 2026.
