Pedro Almodóvar Makes His Comeback to Spain in the First Trailer for Bitter Christmas.

After his first feature film in English, Pedro Almodóvar is preparing for his upcoming Spanish-language film, Bitter Christmas (translated from Amarga Navidad), which is set to be released in Spain on March 20, accompanied by a likely extensive festival circuit. The film stars Bárbara Lennie, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Victoria Luengo, Patrick Criado, Milena Smit, and Quim Gutiérrez. The first trailer has now been released just in time for the Christmas season. It’s anticipated that Sony Pictures Classics will release the film in the U.S. around this same time next year to align with the holidays.

Here’s the synopsis, translated from Spanish: "Elsa is an advertising executive whose mother passes away during a lengthy holiday weekend in December. She immerses herself in work to escape her grief, unaware that she is depriving herself of the necessary time to mourn. Her relentless work pace is disrupted by a panic attack that compels her to take a break. During this crisis, her partner, Bonifacio, provides her with support. Elsa chooses to travel to the island of Lanzarote with her friend Patricia, who is also seeking refuge from Madrid, while Bonifacio remains in the city."
