McCoy and Sulu have been cast in the final season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

      The USS Enterprise is set to beam aboard the last crew members from the Original Series in the fifth and concluding season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Thomas Jane (The Expanse) will be joining the cast as Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy, while Kai Murakami makes his television debut as Hikaru Sulu.

      To date, neither character has appeared in Strange New Worlds, as the series has focused on the earlier crew of the Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike. Among Pike's crew, only Spock and Uhura, portrayed by Ethan Peck and Celia Rose Gooding, have remained as core characters, but the show has gradually introduced more original characters in anticipation of Pike's accident, leading to James T. Kirk's ascendancy. Paul Wesley will portray Kirk, and Martin Quinn will take on the role of Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott.

      It remains unclear how many episodes Jane and Murakami will appear in during the final season, though they are expected to be featured in the series finale as the plot approaches Kirk's appointment as captain of the Federation's flagship. In The Original Series, McCoy and Sulu were originally enacted by DeForest Kelley and George Takei, with Karl Urban and John Cho representing the characters in the Kelvin Timeline films.

      The fifth season of Strange New Worlds completed filming in Toronto this week in preparation for next year’s fourth season. In contrast to the previous four seasons, the upcoming fifth season will consist of only six episodes instead of ten.

      Star Trek: Strange New Worlds features Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, Carol Kane, Martin Quinn, and Paul Wesley.
