The finale of Stranger Things earns over a million at the box office.
The long-awaited finale of Stranger Things may have divided audiences, but it didn’t deter them from heading to theaters for one last adventure in the Upside Down.
As reported by Deadline, the Duffer Brothers’ farewell exceeded expectations by earning over $25 million at the box office since its release on New Year’s Day, with some estimates suggesting it could reach $30 million once all ticket sales are tallied.
Stranger Things employed a unique release strategy, selling concession vouchers for $20 per seat to navigate the cast’s contractual terms regarding residuals. This highly anticipated send-off for Netflix’s flagship series was screened in 620 locations across North America, and two days prior to its debut, it was announced that 1.1 million tickets had already been sold.
To highlight the impressive figures, box-office leader Avatar: Fire & Ash brought in $23.7 million over New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
