A remake of Speedball is set to launch on Steam and consoles this month.
Amid the cheers of fans and cries for ice cream, developer and publisher Rebellion has revealed that Speedball will be released on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on January 27. The game will also exit Steam Early Access on the same day. Speedball is a revival of the classic series created by the Bitmap Brothers in 1988, and it remains one of the top futuristic sports games to date.
Set in the distant future of 2138, Speedball is a violent, no-holds-barred sport utilized by mega-corporations to distract the oppressed populace from the harsh realities of this bleak future (which is quite similar to the Running Man universe). In this game, two teams composed of cybernetically enhanced players compete to score more goals while inflicting injuries on their opponents. Each match is fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring players to hone their passing and shooting skills.
Speedball will include:
- Intense and brutal matches.
- A diverse selection of teams and arenas, each with its own unique obstacles and abilities.
- A slow-motion 'Slam Cam' feature that captures the most savage tackles.
- Arcade-style matches combined with sports management elements.
- The ability to create a team that aligns with your playstyle, focusing on players' unique traits and skills.
- Options to play against AI, as well as online or with friends.
Upon leaving Steam Early Access, the game will introduce several new features, including:
- A League Mode featuring 10 teams competing throughout a season.
- A Tutorial system designed to assist new managers.
- Enhanced versions of arenas alongside the standard ones.
- Upgraded visuals, a new shooting system, and improved gameplay mechanics.
- Eight additional arenas, complete with dynamic traps and obstacles.
- New armor sets and color schemes.
Be ready for Speedball's launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and its departure from Steam Early Access on January 27.
