U.S. Trailer for Christian Petzold’s Miroirs No. 3 Takes Paula Beer Into Uncharted Territory
Christian Petzold's Miroirs No. 3 will make its way to U.S. audiences through 1-2 Special, almost a year after its debut at Cannes. This may be the minimum time required to process this film, which stands out as one of the German director's most enigmatic and elusive works to date. With a theatrical release set for March 20, the U.S. trailer has been unveiled.
As Luke Hicks noted in his Cannes review, “Miroirs No. 3 is best experienced with minimal prior knowledge. While it might not rank among Petzold’s finest, that is a high benchmark considering his films like Barbara and Undine. It is quintessential Petzold, which I say in the most complimentary way. Do not anticipate all mysteries being resolved. There is no significant explanatory scene or satisfying narrative closure, as Petzold eschews such conventions, but the enigmas that do come to light offer unique insights.”
Here’s the synopsis: “During a weekend getaway to the countryside, Laura, a young piano student from Berlin, survives a shocking car accident. Waking up in a nearby house, she comes under the care of a local woman who tends to her with loving devotion. As Laura recovers, she begins to involve herself in the lives of the woman and her initially hesitant husband and son. Both haunted and hopeful, Laura and her newfound family rediscover the world and find an unusual harmony together. Yet, they cannot escape the specters of the past, which begin to resurface, as acclaimed director Christian Petzold (PHOENIX, TRANSIT) crafts a modern gothic fairytale about the deceptions we embrace and the intricate ways in which grief, connection, and humanity intertwine and support us.”
