Exclusive Interview – Actor Pacharo Mzembe talks about his new sci-fi film Space/Time.

Actor Pacharo Mzembe has gained recognition for his versatile performances in film, television, and theatre, including notable works like NBC’s popular series La Brea, Paramount Pictures’ Love and Monsters, and Amazon Prime’s Nautilus. His latest endeavor is Epic Pictures’ sci-fi film Space/Time, which is set to be released on VOD tomorrow. The film’s official synopsis states: Following a disastrous test that halts their project, a disgraced group of scientists ventures into the criminal underbelly to reconstruct a forbidden space-bending engine that could either save humanity or completely destroy it. We engaged in a conversation with Pacharo about his experiences on La Brea and the creative journey behind Space/Time.

You’ve cultivated a varied career in film, TV, and theatre—what initially ignited your passion for acting?

I have always had a strong affinity for storytelling, whether it's on the field, the court, or the stage—it all resonates with me. The ability to inspire and positively impact others is something that will always stay with me.

What motivated you to join Space/Time, and what excited you most about participating in such a high-concept sci-fi project?

Two words: “Michael O'Halloran.” He arranged a director’s meeting where he pitched the story. He conveyed it brilliantly, but the real excitement came from the chance to collaborate with him. He is truly a visionary, and individuals like him are rare, so when the opportunity arises, it’s essential to seize it.

How would you describe your character in Space/Time, and what makes him intriguing within this narrative?

Harris is practical and brave, as well as loving and loyal. He supports Liv in their relationship, and from the first moment he met her, he was purposeful about it. He’s compelling due to his strong moral principles and adherence to them.

What elements of your Space/Time character challenged you or pushed you into uncharted territory? Do you have a favorite behind-the-scenes memory from Space/Time?

Relative to the other actors, I had a comparatively easier time understanding the complexities of space travel, as both Ash (Liv) and Hugh (Holt) had to deal with manifestations of their past, present, and future selves, which I did not face. My favorite moment on set was filming the apartment scenes, which we did over several days in the city, creatively guided by Michael, who made everything flow effortlessly.

What is one lesson from Space/Time that you will carry into your future roles?

Anything is achievable if you believe and put in the effort. There’s always a solution to the problem.

You are also well recognized for your role as Tony Greene in Season 1 of NBC’s La Brea. What can you share about your experience on that show?

La Brea was enjoyable, and I formed beautiful friendships that I cherish to this day. We filmed in Melbourne, Australia during Covid, which presented challenges. I was in an apartment for 171 days, completely isolated and unable to return to my home state. It was definitely a unique experience!

Many directors worked on La Brea; was there one that you particularly connected with?

I had a connection with all of them, but especially with Adam Davidson, as he was deeply involved in the show as an EP as well.

Reflecting on your career, which role or project do you feel has had the most significant impact on you as an artist?

I would say that AMC & AMC+ Nautilus had a profound influence on me, as we filmed on the Gold Coast of Australia for over 297 days. It was the largest production I had been a part of, providing a fantastic opportunity to apply everything I had learned from various mediums. I established real familial bonds during that production.

What projects are you currently working on?

I have a film set to release in early 2026 titled The Bluff, produced by the Russo Brothers and directed by Frank E. Flower, which I am very enthusiastic about. Additionally, I am deeply engaged with my creative-led project house, PM Collab Operations (PMCO), which develops and realizes intellectual properties across film, TV, theatre, and more. While I can’t share much at this moment, I hope to begin filming my first feature film in 2026.
