Nikki Glaser Critiques CBS News and the Justice Department in a Fiery Monologue at the Golden Globes - MovieMaker Magazine
Nikki Glaser opened the Golden Globes with sharp rhetoric, stating that the “Golden Globe for best editing goes to the Justice Department” and the “award for most editing goes to CBS News — indeed, CBS News, America’s latest hub for B.S. News.”
This marked a politically charged start to the event, ridiculing the Trump Administration’s gradual release of heavily redacted Epstein documents and the new editor-in-chief Bari Weiss’ revamp of what was once esteemed CBS News.
She also targeted the celebrities in attendance, humorously commenting on Leonardo DiCaprio’s attraction to significantly younger women and Sean Penn’s willingness to appear older onscreen. Both actors star alongside each other in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another.
Glaser frequently referenced the sale of Warner Bros., beginning her monologue with the quip, “We set the bidding for Warner Brothers at $5.” She later referred to Sinners as the film that “single-handedly saved Warner Bros. — for about a month.” Netflix and Paramount are currently competing to acquire the historic studio.
Glaser didn’t shy away from self-deprecation either, comparing herself to Frankenstein — a subject in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein — by saying she was “assembled by an unlicensed European surgeon.”
This was Nikki Glaser’s second time hosting the Golden Globes. She received much acclaim for her performance last year and was warmly welcomed for her opening jokes on Sunday night.

While Glaser’s speech marked an explicitly political tone on stage, political statements began long before the ceremony started.
On the red carpet, several stars — including Mark Ruffalo, Wanda Sykes, and Natasha Lyonne — displayed black-and-white pins reading “BE GOOD” and “ICE OUT” to protest against ICE and to honor Renee Good, the unarmed 37-year-old woman who was shot by an ICE agent on Wednesday.
Nationwide protests echoed this sentiment, demanding accountability for Good’s death, which the Trump Administration justified by claiming she had attempted to run over an ICE agent intentionally. (You can judge for yourself.) CNN has reported that at least 1,000 demonstrations were organized for this week.
Ruffalo told USA Today on the red carpet that he wore the pin “for Renee Nicole Good, who was murdered.” He also labeled Trump a “rapist” and “pedophile.”
It is important to note that Trump has not been convicted of rape. A jury in a civil case found that he had sexually abused writer E. Jean Carroll, a claim Trump denies. Additionally, he has not been convicted of — or even charged with — any crimes related to minors.
