Kathryn Hahn has confirmed her role as Mother Gothel in Disney's live-action adaptation of Tangled.
Disney's forthcoming live-action version of Tangled has cast its beloved villain. Kathryn Hahn, known for her song “Agatha All Along” and work with The Studio, will portray Mother Gothel, the witch who abducts Rapunzel and utilizes her magical hair to maintain her youth.
Hahn revealed her involvement in the film via her Instagram, where she playfully showcased her Mother Gothel t-shirt. Speculation about her casting has been circulating for several weeks following Scarlett Johansson's initial agreement to the role, which she had to forgo due to her commitments to Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II and Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist.
Hahn will be joined by Teagan Croft (Titans) as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim (Thanksgiving) as Flynn Rider, with Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) directing a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge).
The 2010 animated original adapted the classic Rapunzel fairy tale, featuring music by Disney icon Alan Menken. The story follows Rapunzel, who is kidnapped as a baby and raised by Mother Gothel in a concealed tower, where her magical hair preserves Gothel's youth. After crossing paths with the charming thief Flynn Rider, she compels him to escort her to the kingdom to witness the floating lights that appear in the sky on her birthday. This adventure leads her to discover her hidden past and take control of her own life.
