Skybound and Image have announced a new comic series titled Blood of the Wolf Man, featuring Universal Monsters.
Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics have revealed that the Wolf Man will soon return in the new Universal Monsters comic book series, with writer Joshua Williamson (G.I. Joe) and artist Leomacs (Basketful of Heads) collaborating on the four-issue limited series titled Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man.
“I’m a huge fan of the 1941 film The Wolf Man from Universal Pictures and the Universal Monsters comics line from Skybound, so I knew I had to work on this project,” commented Joshua Williamson. “This is quite different from my typical superhero work—it’s undoubtedly the most tragic. It’s a dramatic, emotional, and heartbreaking narrative about family and generational trauma, which are all vital elements of a horror story. Plus, it’s bloody and violent, truly living up to the title Blood of the Wolf Man in multiple ways. And of course, I had to collaborate with my partner in crime, Leomacs. His artwork conveys the anguish of The Wolf Man and the world he inhabits. This will not be what you expect…”
“Universal Monsters films have always fascinated me due to the deep humanity present in these characters. They are incredibly iconic because they embody both tragic human qualities and the terror of a wild nightmare simultaneously,” said Leomacs. “The Wolf Man has long been a personal favorite, making it a dream come true to illustrate this incredible character in a fresh story and setting, crafted by the talented Joshua Williamson. Together, we delve into the Wolf Man’s bloodlust and the inevitable repercussions.”
“It’s fantastic to see Joshua Williamson and Leomacs back together to deliver this reimagining of the legendary The Wolf Man tale,” stated Diegs Lopez, Senior Editor at Skybound. “Josh is operating at his best, enriching The Wolf Man mythos through beautifully tragic and emotional storytelling, while Leomacs vividly brings this 1970s setting to life with his intense and visceral narrative style. Following the exciting conclusion of Phantom of the Opera in May, we are thrilled to start bringing Universal Monsters stories to readers every month.”
