Glen Powell voices Fox McCloud in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
The galaxy is indeed expanding in Illumination and Nintendo’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, as a beloved character has been confirmed to appear in the film. Fox McCloud, the leader of Star Fox, will join the cast, voiced by Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick).
Powell shared his involvement on Instagram through a fun video showcasing his Star Fox jacket. The most recent trailer for Super Mario Galaxy featured a quick glimpse of him, but Nintendo has now chosen to officially unveil Fox’s role in the movie.
Fox McCloud made his debut in 1993’s Star Fox, where he and his team of starfighters journey through the Lylat system to thwart an invasion led by the villainous Andross. The game was immensely popular, leading to a franchise that included other successful titles like Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Adventures.
Due to his popularity, Fox was included in the roster of the crossover fighting game Super Smash Bros., where he became a favorite among players for his speed and unique attacks. He has appeared as a main character in every subsequent Smash Bros. installment, often alongside other Star Fox characters.
Powell joins a star-studded cast that features Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Donald Glover, Benny Safdie, Kevin Michael Richardson, Brie Larson, Luis Guzmán, and Issa Rae.
“After defeating Bowser and rescuing Brooklyn, Mario now faces the wicked partnership of Wario and Bowser Jr. With the help of his friends and Yoshi, he must thwart their schemes for world domination.”
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie premieres in theaters on April 1st.
