Annette Bening is set to join Andy Samberg in the cryogenic romantic comedy 42.6 Years.
Andy Samberg will awaken from cryogenic freezing to find that his ex-girlfriend is portrayed by Annette Bening in the time-travel comedy 42.6 Years. Initially reported about 3.1 years ago, with Jean Smart originally cast alongside Samberg, Deadline has confirmed that Annette Bening will now take on the role of Samberg’s former partner, while the film transitions from Amazon MGM Studios to Focus Features.
There has also been a shift in the director’s seat, with Craig Gillespie, known for I, Tonya, stepping down for Michael Schwartz, director of The Peanut Butter Falcon, to take over. Schwartz will direct from a script by Seth Reiss, co-writer of The Menu, who developed the screenplay based on a story he created with Samberg.
In the movie, Samberg and Bening will portray ex-lovers divided by time after he participates in an experimental procedure to be cryogenically frozen. When he wakes up 42.6 years later, his only option is to reach out to his much older ex-girlfriend, who has experienced a full life in his absence.
