Backrooms Trailer: Renate Reinsve and Chiwetel Ejiofor Explore the Void in Kane Parsons’ First Film
In a summer movie season once again dominated by sequels and reboots, one intellectual property that has captured our attention is Kane Parson’s directorial debut, Backrooms, which draws inspiration from his “creepypasta” web series. Featuring a cast that includes Renate Reinsve, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia, A24 is set to release the film on May 29, and they have just released a new trailer.
The brief synopsis mentions, “a strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom,” and the first trailer does not reveal much more. However, it teems with unsettling visuals that will surely please fans of Parson’s short films.
“The overarching story is not presented through a footage medium, and it takes the characters to places we haven’t seen before while delving into themes I haven’t explored yet,” Parsons explained to Dazed. “The Backrooms is not – and has never been – something I regard as an internet trend or a meme. It’s simply a story I truly care about, with characters I genuinely invest in.”
Watch the trailer below for the film that has a runtime of 2 hours and 25 minutes.
