Backrooms Trailer: Renate Reinsve and Chiwetel Ejiofor Explore the Abyss in Kane Parsons' First Film
In a summer film season once again dominated by sequels and reboots, one intellectual property that has caught our attention is Kane Parson’s directorial debut, *Backrooms*, which is inspired by his “creepypasta” web series. Featuring a cast that includes Renate Reinsve, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia, A24 is set to release the film on May 29, and they have just released a new trailer.
The brief synopsis states, “a strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom,” and not many additional details are revealed in the initial trailer. However, it offers plenty of unsettling imagery that should please fans of Parson’s shorts.
“The overarching story isn’t conveyed through a footage medium, and it takes characters to places we haven't encountered before while delving into themes I haven't really explored yet,” Parsons explained to Dazed. “The Backrooms is not – and has never been – something I see as an internet trend or a meme. It’s simply a story I sincerely care about, with characters I genuinely cherish.”
Watch the trailer below for the film, which runs for 2 hours and 25 minutes.
