The Housemaid’s Secret will compete directly with Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars.
Coinciding with today's home entertainment launch of The Housemaid, a teaser poster has been released for the newly announced The Housemaid’s Secret, which reveals a December 17, 2027 release date for the sequel featuring Sydney Sweeney. Lionsgate is taking a bold step by directly competing against Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Secret Wars with this film.
Directed by Paul Feig and adapted from Freida McFadden's novel, The Housemaid tells the story of a young woman with a troubled past who becomes a live-in maid for a family shrouded in dark secrets. The film stars Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and Michele Morrone, and was released in early December, becoming a significant box office success with a revenue of $397.5 million worldwide against a production budget of just $35 million.
The Housemaid’s Secret will draw from the second book in McFadden’s popular series, featuring Feig back at the helm, along with Sydney Sweeney, returning cast member Michele Morrone, and newcomer Kirsten Dunst.
While it may seem risky for Lionsgate to release this film alongside Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday sequel, production for the superhero film is not set to begin until mid-year, and due to the numerous postponements surrounding Doomsday, it’s uncertain whether Secret Wars will maintain its December 2027 release date.
The Housemaid’s Secret is scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2027.
