The Housemaid’s Secret is set to compete against Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars.
Coinciding with today's home entertainment release of The Housemaid, a teaser poster has been unveiled for the newly announced The Housemaid’s Secret, which reveals a release date of December 17th, 2027, for the sequel led by Sydney Sweeney. Lionsgate is strategically counterprogramming against Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Secret Wars by directly competing with the superhero blockbuster.
Directed by Paul Feig and adapted from Freida McFadden's novel, The Housemaid features Sydney Sweeney as a young woman with a troubled history, hired to serve as a live-in maid for a family harboring dark secrets. Released at the beginning of December, the film, which includes performances from Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and Michele Morrone, became a box office hit, earning $397.5 million worldwide against a production budget of only $35 million.
The Housemaid’s Secret will draw from the second book in McFadden’s bestselling series, with Feig returning to direct, alongside Sweeney, returning co-star Michele Morrone, and new addition Kirsten Dunst to the cast.
While it may seem risky for Lionsgate to position the film alongside Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday sequel, production on the superhero film isn’t set to commence until mid-year. Given the numerous delays concerning Doomsday, it is uncertain whether Secret Wars will maintain its December 2027 schedule.
The Housemaid’s Secret is slated for release on December 17th, 2027.
