Skybound and Image reveal the 2026 variant covers for Energon Universe Special.
The Energon Universe is set to expand this May as M.A.S.K. joins Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Void Rivals within the immensely popular shared comic book universe created by Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics. The foundation will be laid for the upcoming year of storytelling on Free Comic Book Day with the launch of the Energon Universe Special 2026.
“The release of the Energon Universe Special is an exhilarating annual highlight in the E.U.,” stated Executive Editor Ben Abernathy in a press release. “We gather top talent to craft thrilling short stories that plant the seeds for the Energon Universe's future…and the narratives become more captivating every year!”
In addition to the Free Comic Book Day 2026 edition, the Energon Universe Special 2026 will also be released in a standard retail format. While the interior content will remain unchanged, the retail version will feature the same primary cover by artist Pye Parr, along with variant covers from Howard Porter & Romulo Fajardo Jr., Jason Howard, Conor Hughes, and Cedric Poulat.
The Energon Universe Special 2026 will be available on Free Comic Book Day 2026, which falls on May 2nd, followed by the retail release on May 6th.
