Scream 8 has secured its writers while Scream 7 breaks franchise records.
With Ghostface currently increasing his or her thirty-year body count in theaters worldwide, Paramount and Spyglass are quickly moving ahead with another chapter in the billion-dollar franchise, announcing Lilla and Nora Zuckerman as the writers for Scream 8.
As reported by Deadline, the Zuckerman sisters have been given the task of expanding Ghostface's story. The pair recently concluded their roles as showrunners on Rian Johnson’s highly regarded Peacock series, Poker Face, and have previously written for shows like Fringe, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Suits. They were also behind the pilot episode of the Buffy revival series, Buffy: New Sunnydale, directed by Chloe Zhao of Hamnet fame, though 20th Television and Searchlight Television chose not to proceed with the project.
This announcement comes as the seventh installment directed by Kevin Williamson has surpassed the $200 million mark at the global box office, marking the first time a Scream film has reached this milestone in its long history. While the movie, featuring Neve Campbell reprising her role as Sidney Prescott, may not have impressed critics (see our review ★★ here), it appears that audiences are eager for more from the legendary slasher.
