Legally Blonde is making a comeback in theaters to celebrate its 25th anniversary, along with a sneak peek of the Elle prequel series.
Before Elle Woods makes her return in the prequel series Elle, Amazon MGM Studios will commemorate the 25th anniversary of Legally Blonde by bringing it back to theaters, accompanied by a special preview of the upcoming prequel.
Originally released in 2001, the film stars Reese Witherspoon as the fashionable and underestimated Elle Woods, who enrolls in Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend. However, she soon becomes embroiled in a court case that will reveal that she is much more than just a stereotypical blonde. Directed by Robert Luketic and adapted from Amanda Brown's novel, the film features performances by Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Matthew Davis, Victor Garber, Jennifer Coolidge, Holland Taylor, Ali Larter, Alanna Ubach, Linda Cardellini, and Oza Perkins.
Legally Blonde was a massive success, leading to a sequel in 2003, and remains one of Witherspoon’s most memorable roles. The re-release is set for May 24th and May 27th, with both Witherspoon and Lexi Minetree, who plays a young Elle Woods in high school, introducing the film, followed by an exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming prequel, which will debut on Prime Video on July 1st.
“Romance, Comedy, Drama, a sharp eye for fashion, and an unparalleled talent for delivering witty one-liners in the courtroom—Reese Witherspoon rose to Hollywood superstardom through her role as Elle Woods. Now, 25 years later, Legally Blonde is returning to theaters for its silver anniversary with a special nationwide re-release ahead of the Elle prequel series launching on Prime Video,” said Ray Nutt of Fathom Entertainment. “Fans of all ages will love revisiting this classic from 2001, with an exclusive, heartfelt introduction from both actresses who embody Elle Woods, Reese Witherspoon and Lexi Minetree.”
This beloved comedy follows Elle Woods, a California blonde with a wardrobe full of couture (mostly pink), fabulous friends, and the most popular boyfriend on campus. So when Warner Huntington III abruptly breaks up with her to attend Harvard Law School, Elle takes charge. She enrolls as well! Rewinning Warner should be easy (maybe just a bend and snap), right? Wrong! Elle is about to embark on the most challenging fight of her life…for love, honor, justice, and the dignity of blondes everywhere!
Legally Blonde will return to theaters on May 24th and 27th.
