The third episode of "Beyond the Light," a developer diary from IO Interactive that offers an inside look at their forthcoming James Bond origin game, "007 First Light," is now available to view below. This latest installment delves into the team's strategy for crafting the narrative and reinterpreting the origins of the legendary British character for the gaming world. You can watch the new episode below...
In episode 3 of the developer diary series, audiences are introduced to Main Writer Michael Vogt, who discusses the process behind the game's storyline. This segment highlights essential screenwriting concepts like structure, character development, and themes, and how these elements contribute to shaping the level design and interactive experience.
Vogt also notes that the younger version of Bond presents a different atmosphere for the game compared to the older, more seasoned character. We are accustomed to seeing a strong, confident, and resourceful Bond, one with extensive experience who is well aware of what to expect from his adversaries. In contrast, this younger Bond is portrayed as idealistic, adventurous, and keen to prove himself as he ventures into the world of espionage for the first time.
This new original Bond adventure will enable players to utilize stealth, direct action, or a mixture of both to complete missions in their personal style. Utilizing Spycraft, Instinct, Gadgets, and Combat, players can tackle each mission in a manner they prefer. Spycraft involves stealthy maneuvers, information collection, and infiltration. Instinct leverages Bond’s skill to adapt, bluff, and mislead opponents. Gadgets, provided by Q Branch, offer players additional tactical flexibility during missions. Lastly, Combat encompasses gunplay, melee engagements, and environmental interactions.
"007 First Light" is set to launch on May 27th and can be pre-ordered now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 (physical editions only), and PC. Pre-orders will receive a complimentary upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, which includes 24-hour Early Access and exclusive in-game items and outfits.
