Buffy the Vampire Slayer makes its comeback this July with a fresh series from Dynamite Entertainment.
The anticipated TV reboot New Sunnydale may have been halted at the pilot stage, but Buffy Summers is set to return this year in comic book form, as Dynamite Entertainment has officially announced a new ongoing Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic series created by Eisner Award-winning writer Kelly Thompson (Absolute Wonder Woman) and artist Stephen Byrne.
“Buffy Summers is, in my view, one of the greatest modern heroes of the science-fiction/fantasy genre,” stated Thompson. “The show was incredibly inspiring for a young Kelly, and like many fortunate events in my life, I’m not sure I would be a writer today if I hadn't discovered Buffy at that pivotal time. This concept for Buffy has been on my mind for quite a while – so when the opportunity to take on both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel presented itself, I couldn’t pass it up. I hope you all enjoy the journey — it comes from a genuine affection for the franchise – and I’ll strive to honor it.”
“I’ve been truly passionate about the Buffyverse for my entire life, and I have the VHS boxsets and DVDs to back that up,” added Byrne. “Collaborating on this comic with such an incredible writer feels like a surreal dream realized, and I still can hardly believe it. I’m eager for fans to see what Kelly has in store.”
