Disclosure Day author states that 'Religion Plays a Significant Role' in the new Spielberg film.
Disclosure Day, the forthcoming alien-themed film by Steven Spielberg, is perfectly aligned with current sentiments: The film's screenwriter, David Koepp, shares with MovieMaker that religion significantly influences the film and his thoughts on extraterrestrial existence.
This revelation comes at a relevant time, as several religious leaders have recently stated they were briefed by individuals associated with U.S. intelligence regarding the release of UFO or UAP-related information. Some express concern that this new data could challenge individuals' beliefs.
The Trump Administration began unveiling a few new images on Friday, but thus far, they resemble the familiar types of UAPs, or unidentified anomalous phenomena: they are blurry, showcasing small, unidentified objects high in the sky, captured from a considerable distance.
Disclosure Day follows the recent release of the similarly titled documentary Age of Disclosure, which claims that the government has concealed evidence of extraterrestrial life for many years. Notably, the film’s director, Dan Farah, collaborated with Spielberg on the 2018 movie Ready Player One.

In a conversation with MovieMaker for the current print edition of MovieMaker Magazine, Koepp — who crafted the screenplay for Disclosure Day based on Spielberg’s story — revealed to writer Greg Gilman that religion is integrated into the film. When asked about his beliefs regarding aliens, Koepp likened them to God or religion in that we might choose to believe in them without being able to see them.
“My personal belief reflects my view on God, which is why I think religion is a vital aspect of Disclosure Day,” Koepp stated. “I was raised Catholic and know ardent atheists as well as passionate believers. I’ve always thought the most reasonable stance is agnostic; it’s simply to acknowledge: Maybe. I don’t know.”
He continued: “This ties into what is my favorite theory [about aliens], which suggests that other intelligent life forms do exist, that they have been here, and they might even be present now. We just can’t perceive them.”
Koepp elaborated: “The visual spectrum is quite limited, and so much exists beyond it. The range of sounds we can hear is also narrow, but many vibrations exist outside our capability. Our biological senses, and the tools we’ve developed to perceive the world, all have their own limitations. Why should we have faith in our devices over the possibility that entities exist beyond our perception?”
“That’s my favored theory because it's agnostic in nature,” he remarked. “Perhaps. I don’t know.” You can find Gilman's complete interview with Koepp in the latest edition of MovieMaker.
Disclosure Day is set to hit theaters on June 12, from Universal Pictures.
