Prime Video has officially ordered a series adaptation of Fourth Wing, produced by Michael B. Jordan and Lisa Joy.

Prime Video's adaptation of Rebecca Yarros' Fourth Wing is set to take off. A series order has been confirmed, with Yarros serving as an executive producer alongside Michael B. Jordan and Lisa Joy.

The initial installment of The Empyrean series centers on Violet Sorrengail, who is compelled by her mother, one of the nation's top generals, to enroll in the prestigious Basgiath War College to train as a dragon rider. During her time there, she faces rigorous training, betrayals, and conspiracy in a fight for survival. The book's synopsis states:

At twenty years old, Violet Sorrengail was meant to join the Scribe Quadrant, leading a tranquil life immersed in books and history. However, her commanding general mother has commanded her to compete with hundreds of other candidates for a coveted position as a dragon rider in Navarre.

But being smaller and frail means death is always near…since dragons do not bond with "fragile" humans; they incinerate them.

With a shortage of dragons willing to bond, many would kill Violet to improve their own chances. Others would do so simply for being her mother's daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most potent and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She will need every advantage her cleverness can provide just to see another sunrise.

As the days go by, the war outside becomes increasingly perilous, the kingdom's protective wards are weakening, and the death toll keeps rising. Even more troubling, Violet begins to suspect that the leadership is concealing a dire secret.

Friends, foes, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has their own agenda—because once you enroll, there are only two outcomes: graduate or die.

Fourth Wing will be led by showrunner Meredith Averall (Wednesday), who will write for the series, while Joy will direct the pilot. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo will produce through Outlier Society, and Joy, Jonathan Nolan, and Athena Wickham will produce for Kilter Films. Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark will also serve as producers for Premeditated Productions.

“Rebecca’s books have emerged as one of the fastest-selling franchises of the 21st century, with an intensely devoted fandom that doesn’t just read these stories but lives within them, and that’s because Fourth Wing encompasses everything,” Averill said. “The emotional stakes are immense, the battles are grand, the power dynamics are exciting, and beneath it all is a wealth of humor and heart, along with a romance that will engulf you.”

Following Fourth Wing are the sequels Iron Flame and Onyx Storm, with two additional novels set to follow.
