The trailer for the Ghost in the Shell anime series hints at an upcoming era of cyberpunk action.

      A new anime adaptation of Masamune Shirow's classic manga Ghost in the Shell is on the horizon, produced by the renowned animation studio Science SARU. A fresh poster and trailer for the series, titled The Ghost in the Shell, have been unveiled in anticipation of its global premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival next month, hinting at "a new era of cyberpunk action."       Set in 2029, a near-future Japan becomes a highly information-driven society, with a vast corporate network spanning the globe, filled with electrons and light. Nevertheless, the nation-state and ethnic groups persist.

      Motoko Kusanagi, a full-body cyborg, leads an elite team of fellow cyborgs, including Batou. While on duty, Kusanagi imagines forming a specialized task force to proactively address emerging threats. Concurrently, Daisuke Aramaki from the Ministry of Home Affairs, who has been planning to create a similar unit, identifies Kusanagi and her squad.

      Together, they launch operations as Public Security Section 9, an aggressive tactical group known as the "Shell Squad." As they tackle intricate cyber-crimes and international conspiracies, the presence of an enigmatic hacker dubbed "the Puppet Master" looms over their investigation. What destiny lies ahead for Kusanagi? And what is the true aim of the Puppet Master?

      The Ghost in the Shell will debut at the Annecy International Film Festival in June, followed by a global release on July 7th. It will be accessible internationally through Prime Video.
