The August lineup from The Criterion Collection features James Gray, Todd Haynes, and others.
Criterion's summer lineup is nearly complete. With June and July delivering pleasant selections, August follows suit: they have announced a 4K upgrade of Todd Haynes' Safe (which includes audio commentary featuring Haynes, Julianne Moore, and producer Christine Vachon, along with Haynes' rarely seen 1978 short The Suicide). Additionally, following the Cannes premiere of Paper Tiger, James Gray's debut film Little Odessa finally joins Criterion's collection.
Two important documentaries by Barbara Kopple, American Dream and Harlan County, USA, will be released separately, with the former available in 4K. Meanwhile, Bertrand Tavernier’s existential crime thriller Coup de torchon will be released on Blu-ray. The Eclipse series from Criterion expands to #49 with Five Radical Documentaries by Kazuo Hara and Sachiko Kobayashi, featuring their significant documentary The Emperor’s Naked Army Marches On.
