Lily May B, the follow-up to Leos Carax's Annette, is set to begin filming next year with Jenna Ortega.

In what is among the more fascinating director-actor collaborations we've seen in some time, Leos Carax has reportedly enlisted Jenna Ortega to star in his upcoming film (his first since 2021's Annette) titled Lily May B, which is set to begin filming in spring 2027 under the banner of Chi-Fou-Mi Productions. Emerging from the Cannes market, the project has already revealed some noteworthy details, including a synopsis that reads:

      "Once upon a time, there was a little girl, a young woman, and a young boy. Each held a secret too burdensome to carry. They met in a world on the brink of destruction and rode a large motorcycle through abandoned cities, deserted highways, and ancient forests. Throughout their journey, they faced numerous dangers, yet continued onward. In search of their identities; in search of a place to B, perhaps?"

      Adding to the enigma, Carax remarked, “Once upon a time, this is what destroyed us, and this is what kept us alive.” By all accounts, this is not the film he was previously developing with Léa Seydoux and Adam Driver, which was rumored to enter production “soon” in spring 2024; uncertainty now surrounds that project's overall status, though it is known that the director does not typically rush his work. It doesn't appear that Lily May B will be any less ambitious, as Hugo Sélignac describes the film as a “universe” with an “A-list cast” set to be announced in September.
