Hammer Films reveals new 4K restoration of the horror classic Dracula.
In conjunction with World Dracula Day, Hammer Films has revealed an entirely new 4K restoration of its 1958 gothic horror classic Dracula, also known as Horror of Dracula, which stars Christopher Lee. This restoration will be available in UK cinemas and on home entertainment platforms this October.
The forthcoming restoration will showcase the film in its most complete version ever, restoring footage that was previously only shown during the original Japanese theatrical release and thought to have been lost for over sixty years.
“Presenting Dracula to audiences in 4K goes beyond mere film restoration,” stated John Gore, CEO of Hammer Films and John Gore Studios. “This is the recovery of a significant piece of British film history that many believed was gone forever. Witnessing Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing together again in such remarkable detail serves as a powerful reminder of the impact this film still has nearly seventy years after its debut.”
Dracula was Christopher Lee’s first portrayal of the infamous Count and paired him once again with director Terence Fisher from The Curse of Frankenstein, writer Jimmy Sangster, and co-star Peter Cushing, who plays Dracula’s adversary, Professor Van Helsing.
