During the summer of 1949, at the peak of the Cold War, father and daughter undertake an emotional and challenging journey in a black Buick, traveling through a war-torn Germany – from US-held Frankfurt to Soviet-dominated Weimar. After spending sixteen years in exile in the US, Thomas Mann must confront not only a fractured homeland but also significant rifts within his own family.
