New Commando comics deliver increased action and adventure.
A fresh collection of Commando comics has been released, delivering more tales of wartime heroes to readers. This new series (issues 5967-5970) includes an all-new Rayker story and a fierce confrontation between a Churchill tank and a Tiger I tank set during the North Africa campaign. Additionally, DC Thompson has announced that comic enthusiasts can purchase issues directly from the DC Thompson shop with free shipping.
The latest set of Commando comics includes:
Rayker: Back in The Ranks – issue 5967 (Home of Heroes)
Sergeant Moses Rayker, a Black man serving in the segregated American military, not only faces the Germans but also encounters the racist attitudes of his superiors. After the US suffers devastating losses from a surprise German assault, General John Lee seeks infantry volunteers at the private level. Although it took Rayker five long years to achieve his sergeant rank, he must rejoin the ranks to participate in the battle. Simon Topping pens this compelling tale, with artwork by Mike Dorey and cover art by Mike Dorey and Grant Wood.
Dive After Dark – issue 5968 (Gold)
This story, originally published in 1972 (issue 616), centers on the Fleet Air Arm group known as “Buckley’s Bats,” featuring ace pilots and expert navigators. However, they operate Fairey Albacores — bulky biplanes with a maximum speed of just 160 mph. Can these aces make a significant impact in the war while flying such antiquated aircraft? This classic narrative was created by Brunt, with cover art by Ian Kennedy and internal illustrations by Mira.
Desert Duel – 5969 (For Action and Adventure)
In this new adventure by Andrew Knighton, a raid on a German outpost leaves the crew of a Churchill tank, nicknamed Lancelot, isolated and being chased by a formidable Tiger I tank. In a perilous cat-and-mouse game to reunite with their unit, the two crews inevitably face each other in a desert duel. This issue boasts artwork by Carlos Pino and dynamic cover art by Keith Burns.
The Sleeping Tiger – 5970 (Silver)
The second classic story from 1985 (issue 1874) follows Jim Slater, a man who cherished his sleep. Regardless of his location, Jim would quickly drift off. Even in the jungles of Asia fighting against the Japanese, Jim found it easy to nod off, but tigers also excel at taking catnaps, leading Jim to become a sleeping tiger. The story and internal art for this thrilling war narrative are provided by Anglo, with cover art by Philpott.
This new collection of Commando comics is now available at all reputable retailers, and issues can also be ordered from the DC Thompson online shop.
