Netflix reveals first look at Ghostbusters: Night Shift.

      Netflix has provided a first look at the forthcoming animated series Ghostbusters: Night Shift, in which a new group of young ghostbusters takes on supernatural threats in New York City. Set in 1994, five years after Ghostbusters II, the series features Peter Venkman, Ray Stanz, and Winston Zeddemore in retirement after Egon Spengler has taken all their equipment, as mentioned in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. During the Annecy event, Netflix showcased two pieces of concept art for Night Shift that introduce the new Ghostbusters team and a supernatural being known as the Night Watcher, depicted in the image above and appearing nearly as large as the famous Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

      The new Ghostbusters team consists of Belladonna, the goth; Mitzi, the punk; Zoe, the child; Mitzi’s younger sister; Travis, the conman; Mike, the scientist; and Terror Puppy. The official synopsis states:

      New York City, 1994 — Five years after the Ghostbusters took the Statue of Liberty for a stroll, a new wave of supernatural chaos strikes the Big Apple, compelling a group of scrappy, young New Yorkers — untrained, undervalued, and somewhat responsible for the crisis — to don proton packs, confront their fears, and capture some ghosts.

      Ghostbusters: Night Shift will be executive produced by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, who directed the latest films in the Ghostbusters franchise, Afterlife and Frozen Empire, along with original star Dan Aykroyd. Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan will act as showrunners and also serve as executive producers.

      Currently, there is no specific premiere date for the series, although it is scheduled to be released on Netflix in 2027. Ghostbusters: Night Shift is one of several Ghostbusters projects in development, including a sequel to Frozen Empire and an animated feature film for Netflix. However, it has been some time since either of those projects received significant updates, so they may no longer be in progress. Ghostbusters: Night Shift is set to debut in 2027.
