Warner Bros. is developing an adult animated series based on Dark Shadows.
In alignment with the 60th anniversary of the cult TV show's debut yesterday, Warner Bros. has revealed plans to revive Dark Shadows through an adult animated series led by showrunner Lisa Holdsworth (Discovery of Witches).
Originally launched on ABC in June 1966, the series aired 1,225 episodes over six seasons, centering on the wealthy and eccentric Collins family from Collinsport, Maine—most notably Barnabas Collins, a vampire first played by Jonathan Frid and later portrayed by Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s 2012 film adaptation.
During the Warner Bros. Animation panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, WBA announced the reboot along with a logline for the series: “Combining gothic, horror, and supernatural elements, this upcoming adaptation promises to deliver all the dark twists and romantic intrigue that characterized the groundbreaking series throughout its over 1200 episodes.”
