Prime Video has released a trailer for the upcoming romantic comedy The Love Hypothesis, directed by Claire Scanlon (Set It Up, The People We Hate at the Wedding).

Adapted from Ali Hazelwood’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, the film centers around two scientists, Ph.D. candidate Olive (Lili Reinhart) and Professor Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman), who enter into a fake relationship based on a mutually advantageous arrangement. As they explore their theories on love, they begin to blur the lines between their act and reality. Watch the trailer below…

The Love Hypothesis tells the story of Olive (Lili Reinhart), a talented Ph.D. candidate dedicated to her academic career. However, when she discovers that her best friend Ahn (Rachel Marsh) has developed feelings for her crush Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay), Olive impulsively kisses the intimidating Professor Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman) to show she has moved on. What starts as a desperate gesture of friendship evolves into a faux relationship governed by rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial agreement. As their setup starts to blur the distinction between acting and reality, Olive must confront her most challenging hypothesis yet: that love might indeed be worth the risk.

The Love Hypothesis premieres on Prime Video on September 23rd.
