Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is currently in “intensive” post-production for its IMAX release.
Spider-Man will return to theaters in just a few weeks with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and fans won't have to wait long to see him again on the big screen next year in the much-anticipated Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse. Writers and producers Christopher Miller and Phil Lord recently shared that they are "deep" into the post-production stage, working on preparing the film for IMAX screenings.
The journey of Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse to the screen has been lengthy, having faced delays and even being removed from Sony’s release schedule entirely. The film is set to be released on June 28th, 2027, and is currently on track to meet that date, as confirmed by Lord and Miller in an interview with Empire.
"We are deep, deep in it," Miller mentioned on Empire’s podcast. He elaborated that the production team is diligently working to create an animated film tailored for IMAX’s expanded 1.43:1 screen ratio. "We’re actually going today to the IMAX headquarters to check the footage at scale and ensure it has the necessary resolution to look stunning. We’re laboring away in the editing room with the team, and it’s all coming together really well. There’s a lot of movie to work with, and a lot left to do. You just have to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s been done. That’s all there is to it. Simple!”
The Spider-Verse series began with 2017’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which saw Miles Morales take on the Spider-Man mantle following Peter Parker's death and encounter various Spider-People from different dimensions. Its sequel, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, raised the stakes by introducing hundreds of unique Spider-heroes, each with their own visual style. As the likely final installment in the Spider-Verse saga—especially after the major cliffhanger of Across—it is expected that Beyond The Spider-Verse will elevate the storyline even further as Miles, Spider-Gwen, Peter B. Parker, and their friends strive to prevent the collapse of their universes.
“Details matter,” stated Lord. “What’s wonderful about these films is that everyone on the crew excels at their craft. You just sit back in awe of all these talented artists, and then we collaborate with these fantastic filmmakers, spending the day in a room together trying to make everything just a bit better. It’s a lot of fun.”
Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse will premiere in theaters on June 28th, 2027.
