Dune: Part 3 Trailer: Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides is 'Far Beyond Redemption'

“You’ve taken over the galaxy. You’ve annihilated countless worlds,” Jason Momoa’s Duncan Idaho tells Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides in the latest trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part 3.
“What’s your take on that?” Paul queries.
“I believe you’ve gone too far for redemption,” Duncan replies.
The trailer begins to address how Dune: Part 3 might surpass — let alone conclude — the climax of Dune: Part 2.
That film concluded with Paul appearing to betray the Fremen people of the desert planet Arrakis by marrying Princess Irulan (Francis Pugh), the daughter of Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV. As Paul initiated a holy war, his Fremen lover Chani (Zendaya) resisted submitting to him.
The Dune: Part 3 trailer opens with her understandably upset.
“I trusted you!” she exclaims, giving him a deserved shove. “You swore to me that you wouldn’t seek power in your name. You assured me that this was your home. That I was your home.”
Timothée Chalamet Returns in Dune: Part 3
This film marks Chalamet’s return to cinemas after some controversy during his Best Actor campaign for Josh Safdie’s 2025 Marty Supreme, in which he portrayed a self-absorbed table tennis hustler with grand aspirations. Chalamet faced backlash for stating during his Oscar run, “I don’t want to be involved in ballet, or opera, or things where it’s like, ‘Hey, keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about it anymore.’”
He quickly followed up, stating, “All respect to all the ballet and opera folks out there,” but the damage was already done: his comments spurred numerous think pieces praising ballet and opera, while critiquing his perceived lack of support.
Dune: Part 3 completes Villeneuve’s intended trilogy, which commenced with 2021’s Dune. If the Lord of the Rings trilogy serves as a model, the third installment of the Dune series might be the one in which Oscar voters honor the entirety of the series.
The first two films adapted Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune, while the third film will adapt his 1969 sequel, Dune: Messiah.
This series marks the third adaptation of Herbert’s work, following David Lynch’s 1984 film — which is broadly deemed a failure — and a 2000 miniseries directed by John Harrison. A planned adaptation by cult filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky never materialized.
Dune: Part 3 will be released in theaters on December 18, from Warner Bros.
