The RoboCop series has been officially approved by Amazon, MGM, and Blumhouse's Atomic Monster.

      Whether dead or alive, RoboCop enthusiasts will soon be treated to a new interpretation as Amazon MGM has approved a RoboCop TV series developed by Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

      Originally released in 1987 and directed by Paul Verhoeven, RoboCop starred Peter Weller as Detroit police officer Alex Murphy. After Murphy is killed in the line of duty, a powerful technology corporation transforms his body into the first cyborg police unit, known as RoboCop. As he targets the criminal gangs of the city, RoboCop begins to confront his past and reclaim his humanity, resisting the corporate agenda.

      The upcoming series will stay true to the classic storyline, following how “a large tech corporation persuades the city to integrate a powerful robot into its police force—one that has been implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer.”

      Peter Ocko (Lodge 49) is leading the development of RoboCop, with James Wan from Atomic Monster serving as executive producer. Original writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner will also hold executive producer roles.

      Over the nearly four decades since its debut, RoboCop has continued to be a standout among 1980s action films, known for its social commentary and exploration of identity and humanity. The film led to two sequels featuring Peter Weller and a 2014 remake starring Joel Kinnaman as RoboCop.
